How your story is used

Your story stays yours

You keep every right in the words, photos and video you send us. Sharing them gives Hout Bay United FC permission to use them as set out here, and nothing more.

If you tick “Hout Bay United may share my story”, the club may show it on the story board at shirt.hbufc.co.za/story, on the club’s own website and social channels, in newsletters, and in films and printed material about the Legacy shirts. It may shorten your words or crop your picture to fit, but it will not change what you said.

Your story goes on the story board as soon as you share it. If it includes a link, a phone number, strong language, politics or betting, or a photo or video of anyone under 18, someone at the club reads it first and it goes up once they have. The club may take any story down, or decide not to publish one, without giving a reason.

Umbro South Africa, the kit partner

Only if you tick the second box, which is optional. Umbro South Africa may then share your story, with your name as you gave it, on its own website and social channels for two years from the day it goes on the story board.

Umbro South Africa may not use it in paid advertising, on products, or in any other way without asking you first and getting your yes. It may not pass it to anyone else.

Children

If your photo or video shows anyone under 18, you must be their parent or guardian or have that person’s permission, and you tell us so when you share it. Without that, the picture is never published; your words can still be. We never name a child, and we remove a picture of a child as soon as a parent or guardian asks.

Changing your mind

You can edit your story at shirt.hbufc.co.za/story/manage at any time, or ask us to take it down by emailing [email protected]. The club removes it from the story board within two working days and stops any new use. Posts already published on social channels are removed where the club, or Umbro South Africa, can remove them.

What we keep

Your story, the email you bought your square with, and the original files you uploaded. They are used only for the story and are never sold. We count how often stories are opened and played, with no cookie and nothing that identifies you, so the club and its partner know whether the stories are being seen.
